We're baaaack!

Last night, I was cleaning my gear – it was long overdue. My shoes were red and stinky from Ugandan dirt, another pair of shoes was still muddy from a summer hike in Naples, New York, and my backpack was muddy from a trek to a remote village here in Belize. As I was scrubbing the dirt from 3 countries, I marveled at how blessed I am to be doing this work in such amazing places. The paths I have trodden and the roads I have traveled make a good life.
I returned to Belize on Sunday after a whirlwind trip to my sister’s house in Virginia. I calculated it out – I was at her house for 55 hours after Uganda.
It was great to see family. Words cannot express how much I appreciate and need them. It was wonderful to reunite with Deirdre and Brennan – they complete me!
The trip to Uganda was busy, beautiful, and exhausting. I’ve jumped back in to life here and I am still processing, still full of wonder, still growing from that experience. It was my fourth trip, but it never ceases to amaze and capture me.
I will catch up on posts – I’d like to give you a sense of what we were up to in Uganda – but it may be slow going because life just doesn’t stop to allow catching up.
And so we move forward and learn as we go.

Check out the NGO that we partner with in Uganda: The 52 Kids Foundation. http://52kids.org/
I work with one of the founders, Frank Woitera, while I am in Uganda. He and Jagger Koerner, a Vermonter, started this organization to help AIDS orphans after they spent a gap year working in rural Uganda. These young men started this organization while they were still in their teens and it continues to provide opportunities and educate those less fortunate in the Kamuli district. The world is full of remarkable humans; I consider myself very fortunate to be able to meet some of them!
